Remember when each major update for Mac OS X included an ever evolving default desktop picture that went by the simple moniker of “Aqua Blue”? Looking in my personal stash of desktops I see four variants of the image plus the grey renders of each. Ah, nostalgia :^)

Then with Leopard a sudden and unexpected twist; good-bye “Aqua Blue”, hello “purpley space strangeness”. What the heck happened? Who spiked the Cupertino water cooler? Good questions Grasshopper — but this aint Jeopardy.

The only thing I can say for sure is that this release makes an attempt at bridging the gap between those disparate images, sort of an evolutionary step you might say. All the fun happy lines of “Aqua Blue” but in a color hue that points in the direction of “purpley space strangeness”. Or maybe it’s all just crazy talk…
