Another Sneak Peek and a Website

Hi Folks,

I’ve jut uploaded what should be Oxidizer 0.6. Once someone has confirmed the Leopard Version still works on Leopard and I’ve updated the ‘valid sheep’ script for check for compatibility with Electric Sheep 2.7 now the ES 2.6 is out of commission these binaries will become the official 0.6 release. The only changes from are to fix the two bugs Cubixel reported, with the floating buttons and slightly better handling of the progress window when rendering thumbnails/previews while a sheep is rendering.

One of the things I do in my non Oxidizer time is to produce the Mac binaries for another Open Source project called Structure Synth.  Through that website I come across a number of other graphics projects and I spent most of yesterday on this one complexification. Bewarned though the addictive but the fun bits are Java Applets and some Flash programs too and I know some people don’t like them.

    Hey Dave,
I have noticed a couple of times today that the “Rendering image” dialogue has remained open after an update. I have restarted the app. Using the Snow Leopard version.

Leopard version is also good under Tiger, just some minor UI glitches.

@Cubixel no 1.6, I’m not planning on support the 1.5.x stuff it unless there are show stoppers, its going to go under significant surgery some of which I’ve already started on.

@Cubixel too the Rendering Image dialogue thing, any particular behaviour causing it, loading files, rendering animations ? It hanging around suggests I’m opening it more often than closing it.

@Scott looks like Tiger hasn’t got the up and down arrows. Grrrr

Dave said…  @Scott looks like Tiger hasn’t got the up and down arrows. Grrrr

I totally missed the arrows not being there, it was the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons that jumped out at me.  Any real need to worry about those items?  Not really sure we/you have anyone using Oxd with Tiger yet — other than my toying around of course.  I’d hate to be the cause of making you all crazy over those.

I updated the download, same URL, to fix a couple of the Persistent Progress Dialogue Boxes, let me know if you find any more.

Hey Dave, Sorry I didn’t get back to ya tile now. Last I saw it was always remaining open. I hadn’t had time to experiment or restart the entire computer. I’ll try updated version. Cheers,.

Just a note that when I clicked to download again FireFox just crabbed it from it’s cache since I’d already downloaded it. Used Safari. Cheers,.

I confirm the render dialogue issue seems to be all ok now. Thanks Dave,. It was confusing at times with it there I wasn’t always sure if it was finished or not. Cheers,.

Is it just my me, or oxidizer seems to be crashing quite a bit?
Trying to mutate a sheep crashes the whole thing:

Here is a log of the crash:

I also wanna mention that I am just starting, so more or less clicking semi randomly (I have a clue however about the whole sheep thing)

Dave I just had another occurrence of the render dialogue not going away. I clicked cancel after starting a render. It stopped but the dialogue remained with the progress still showing what it was when I clicked cancel. I started another render and it finished in record time, about 1 second. The dialogue remained but had cleared of progress. Cheers,.

@Clusty, I haven’t had any issues personally but the stack trace did lead me to a small bug that could have caused a crash so I fixed that.

@Cubixel Couldn’t duplicate the new ‘no going away’ issue, but I’ve reworked the way the I keep track of when the window gets shown so hopefully that’ll fix it.

The new version should be available now, use the link in the original blog post which I’ve updated to point at the new version. Oh, If you down loaded it in the last hour download it again, I fixed a small issue in between updating the link and posting this.

Alls well. Abused the hell out of it and it coped well. Noticed that the Render now cues up behind the preview progress. This has the added benefit of being less confusing. Cheers,.

The URL on the main post now points to Oxidizer, just a couple of tweaks in this one. The reason for the new release is that QuickView buttons for the variation parameters where not moving correctly when resizing. I’ve also finally thrown in automatic filetype extensions for the images and movies.

Let me know if I’ve broken anything :-)
